Often in 2023, the NFL's Sunday slate has been lightened. Whether it was an extra stand-alone international game, a "Monday Night Football" doubleheader or a week loaded with byes, there was always something impacting Sunday's set of games.

But in Week 8, a whopping 13 contests will be played as part of the Sunday main slate. Nine of those contests will begin at 1 p.m. ET while the rest will begin after 4:05 p.m. ET. That will give fans of NFL RedZone plenty of simultaneous action to catch throughout the day.

Of course, those simply looking to watch the games in their markets will look to CBS and Fox to see what they are carrying. Per usual, the networks will be splitting the games roughly evenly; this week, CBS will have seven of the broadcasts compared to Fox's six, and the former network will get a chance to broadcast at a doubleheader in both the 1 p.m. ET and 4:25 p.m. ET windows in each market.

As such, CBS has the better collection of games this week. In the early window, they will rely on the Jaguars and Steelers to drive audience. Both teams have winning records, and it will be interesting to see whether the Steelers can continue to win ugly, as they have so often done after Mike Tomlin.

In the later window, a marquee battle between the Bengals and 49ers will take center stage while others across the country will see Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs play the Broncos. Each of those matchups figures to draw attention, whether its for being a good game (Bengals-49ers) or because it features the best quarterback and head coach combination in the league (Mahomes and Andy Reid).

Meanwhile, Fox will only broadcast one game in each market around the United States, but they have a smattering of solid games available. The Rams vs. Cowboys game will draw the most attention — it is the Cowboys, after all — but the Vikings-Packers and Browns-Seahawks clashes could have ramifications on the playoff race for each conference.

Oh yeah, the Eagles (6-1) are also playing on Fox in a rivalry game against the Commanders. Thus, many will tune in to see Philadelphia in action on the network.

There will be just two stand-alone games on Sunday and Monday, the last time that will happen for a couple of weeks as the NFL prepares to head to Germany in Week 9. The Bears and Chargers will play in a "Sunday Night Football" battle between two struggling teams while the Lions will look to beat the Raiders on "Monday Night Football" to avenge their blowout loss to the Ravens.

There are plenty of intriguing matchups on the main slate as well, but the Bengals-49ers game stands out as the best of the bunch. San Francisco is looking to avoid losing three consecutive games after a 5-0 start while the Bengals will be fighting to stay in the AFC North race while looking to keep their record above .500. Both teams have explosive offenses, so this could be a high-scoring game.

Week 8 where having all of your players available makes for some difficult choices after last week’s byes and injuries forced us to basically just start anyone actually playing in an NFL game.

The biggest story line of this Sunday is snow in Denver. The reports I’m seeing have the snow ending just before game time, which means the field could be messy and the temps will be chilly but the visibility should be fine. Wind is not expected to be a factor.

I have all of the normal concerns about using the Broncos offense for fantasy, but basically no concerns about the Chiefs. I’ll get into the specifics based on your situations below.

I’m definitely taking Pickens here and then I think it’s Thielen. He was red-hot and unbenchable before the bye, so I’m not letting a matchup with Houston’s stingy secondary stop me.

I, like many of you, feel like Jacobs is due to have a big game, but Detroit has been awfully stout against the run and this might just not be the week for him. I believe in the Chiefs’ D 100 percent, and especially in bad weather.

I’m going to pass on Metcalf due to the matchup with Cleveland’s formidable secondary and his coming back from core injuries. I like Flowers a lot today in a great spot vs. Arizona and it’s hard to argue with Meyers’ usage regardless of who’s at quarterback. The Raiders play Monday night in Detroit, which isn’t the best matchup, but should at least force Jimmy Garoppolo to throw a lot to stay in it.

Pickens and Wilson will both be playing in rain and modest wind today against fairly generous pass defenses (Giants and Jaguars both rank in the top 10 for fantasy). Pickens has been more successful as the big-play guy, but today I might opt for more of the short passes Wilson catches and hope for some big after the catch yards and a score.

Absolutely not. The Denver Broncos are the best matchup for fantasy overall and for running backs. Pacheco has scored in back-to-back games and is playing a lucrative role in the pass game for the Kansas City Chiefs.

We are approaching the halfway point of the 2023 NFL season and the playoff picture is now something to keep an eye on. Here in Week 8, the two New York teams in the Jets and Giants face off, the New England Patriots look to build on their upset win over the Buffalo Bills last week against another divisional opponent in the Miami Dolphins, and the Cleveland Browns look to win their third straight game when they face the Seattle Seahawks.

Derek Carr has been frustrated as of late, Chris Olave ran into some trouble off the field for driving too fast and the Saints have won just one of their last five games. Now, they travel to Indy to take on a team that dropped 456 yards of total offense and 38 points on the best defense in the NFL last week. By the way, New Orleans averages just 19 points per game.

Now, Gardner Minshew hasn't been consistent and the Colts defense doesn't exactly rival the '85 Bears, but I liked watching Josh Downs explode for 125 yards and a touchdown last week, and Jonathan Taylor have his breakout performance this season with 120 scrimmage yards and a touchdown.
